NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H, halogen lower haloalkyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or cyano; R<3> is H or halogen; R<4> is lower alkyl; X is O or S). EXAMPLE:2-Ethoxy-5-{1-[4-(2-pyridyloxy)phenoxy]-ethyl}-1,3,4-thiadiazole. USE:An insecticidal and acaricide having controlling effects on nits and larvae of insects of the order such as Coleoptera, Lepidopterea, Hemiptera, Orthoptera and Diptera, especially effective against various kinds of Tetranychidae such as Tetranychus urtiae Koch, Tetranychus telarius Linne and citrus red mite living in plants and exhibiting excellent destroying effects on nits, larvae and young imagoes. PREPARATION:For example, a phenolic derivative shown by formula II is reacted with a thiadiazole derivative shown by formula III (Hal is halogen) in the presence of a base such as anhydrous K2CO3 in a polar solvent such as dimethylformamide at 0-150 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula I.
