A lifting apparatus comprises a system of reciprocally pivoted arm members mounted on a vehicle 2 and actuated by hydraulic cylinders 12, 18 and a personnel carrier 30 connected to the upper end of the system of arm members which may be lifted and displaced by the same. An additional system of telescopic members 19, 22, 25 actuated by hydraulic cylinders 20, is inserted in a rotatable fashion between the upper end of the system of arm members and the carrier 30. The lifting apparatus is capable of raising the carrier 30 to heights, corresponding to the amount of the height reachable by the system of arm members 9, 10, 11, 15 and by the system of telescopic members 19, 22, 25, in a vertical direction or, extending the carrier in a horizontal displacement by moving the system of telescopic members in a horizontal direction. <IMAGE>
