PURPOSE:To omit the acquisition of knowledge relating to a printing mode command different in each printer and to reduce the load of an operator by outputting a printing mode command at the time of print output while converting a printing mode code into the printing mode command appropriate for the printer 7. CONSTITUTION:At the time of printing, a document former mixes a printing mode code or the like for instructing the addition of underlines in a character string and inputs the data from a keyboard 6. In the case of printing out the document formed by said procedure and stored in a data file 2 by a printer 7, the operator inputs the document name to be outputted and the machine kind of the printer 7 to be used for printing from the keyboard 6. Consequently, a processor 1 reads out the document to be printed out from the file 2 and transfers the read data to a printing mode conversion part 8. The conversion part 8 converts the printing mode code into a printing mode command appropriate for the printer 7 to be transferred without converting the character string and transfers the converted printing mode command and the character string to the printer 7 to print out the document.
