PURPOSE:To aim at improvement in the generated torque, by detecting a crank angle, where cylinder internal pressure becomes maximized by a cylinder internal pressure sensor as cylinder internal pressure maximum timing, and compensating a fundamental fuel supply so as to cause this cylinder internal maximum timing to accord with the specified desired value. CONSTITUTION:In this controller, there are provided with a pressure detecting device (a) detecting pressure (cylinder internal pressure) in a combustion chamber of an engine and a driving state detecting device (b) detecting a driving state of the engine in setting engine load and speed down to a parameter. And, on the basis of output of the pressure detecting device (a), a crank angle at a time when the cylinder internal pressure becomes maximized is detected as cylinder internal pressure maximum timing by a maximum timing detecting device (c). In addition, at a supply quantity setting device (d), a fundamental fuel supply is set on the basis of the engine driving state, and this value is compensated so as to cause the cylinder internal pressure maximum timing to accord with the specified desired value, whereby a fuel supply device (e) is made so as to be controlled in accordance with the fuel supply found hereat.
