This device comprises, associated with the machine, a system for taking hold of and for fitting reels onto the machine, constituted by two parallel arms 28 which are separated by a distance greater than the width of a reel, one end of which is associated with the frame of the machine and the other end of which has a recess 29 in the form of an open bearing, means 26, 33 being provided for simultaneously moving the two arms between a position in which the ends of these are capable of taking hold of a reel by pressing the said ends under the spindle of the reel, and a position in which the ends of the arms lie opposite the bearings which form part of the machine and which are intended for fitting a reel.
