PURPOSE:To allow the easy and correct adjustment by moving to the right and left by the preset quantity to photograph image patterns and detecting and adjusting the drift quantity between the center of gravity position of overlapped patterns and the position of the preset point where the pattern should be primarily located in a matrix type color picture tube. CONSTITUTION:The line pattern or the like from an image pattern generating circuit 4 is displayed in dots on the display screen 11 of a matrix type color picture tube 1, two dots at the right and left symmetrical positions are photographed by ITV cameras 12a, 12b and stored in an image storage memory 14 via an A/D converter 13. The pattern from the circuit 4 is moved by the preset quantity to the right and left respectively, and the same repetition is performed. An arithmetic circuit 15 calculates the center of gravity position of the overlapped portion of pattern dots based on the storage content of the memory 14, and the drift quantity with the position of the preset point of the preset pattern is detected by an adjustment quantity detecting circuit 16 as the adjustment quantity for the automatic adjustment. Accordingly, the easy and correct color purity correction can be performed without requiring the observation by a microscope or the like.
