PURPOSE:To miniaturize a matrix display device while number of IC pins is decreased by displaying a picture by a predetermined specific video signal different from a substantial video signal when the count of a horizontal count means required to drive a lateral electrode is coincident with the stored count. CONSTITUTION:As a data to be set to a presettable counter 249 in a channel display device using longitudinal bar, a count output of a vertical count means 246 is used. Thus, it is not required for a microprocessor to give a preset data for the presettable counter 249 and only the loading pulse is to be supplied. Thus, increase in number of pins in applying circuit integration to the display device is prevented. The small sized IC chip and the entire miniaturization of the matrix display device are attained.
