USE:An optically active intermediate. An optically active substance (giving a liquid crystal compound having high stability and high spontaneous polarization). PREPARATION:The optically active 2-fluoroalkanoic acid of formula I can be produced by the partial oxidization of an optical active 2-fluoro-1-alkanol of formula II with a proper oxidizing agent.
