Up until now, it was only possible to use solid wood for doors, in which the wood runs vertically over the entire door width, with sufficient protection against rupture perpendicularly to the growth direction if transverse or angle strips or metal bands were provided on the doors, which is not viable from the standpoint of aesthetic appearance. Moreover, the working of the wood led to impermissibly pronounced changes in width. The novel door structure is to avoid these disadvantages. In order to achieve the dimensional stability, the lining of the case comprising solid wood with glued block cores is fitted together with the claddings, on both sides, via tolerance-compensated groove-and-tongue connections, and the door leaf is made up of a plurality of planks which have glued block cores, connected to one another by groove-and-tongue connections and are held together by end-grained-wood strips which are connected to the individual planks in each case on a narrow strip. The end-grained-wood strips ensure dimensional stability, whereas the groove-and-tongue plug-in connections permit the wood to be worked.
