The invention relates to a washing seat intended in particular for washing oneself or for the washing of elderly, sick or disabled people by others. The seat consists of an annular seat element with a central opening and a cutout arranged at the front. To make possible a firm seat, a large-area support for the thighs and a comfortable, relaxed sitting posture, the sitting and supporting area of the seat element (1) has, according to the invention, an outer and inner contour (19, 20) substantially rectangular or square in plan view. The rear portion has a surface (14) which is constructed as sitting and back-supporting area at the same time, rises steeply in the radial direction from the inner as far as the outer contour (20, 19), is concave and runs substantially along the surface of a cylinder or toroid. The side portions are provided with concave surfaces (15) which run from said surface (14) in the direction of the front portions, rise less steeply from the inner and to the outer contour (20, 19), respectively, and have a progressively diminishing radius of curvature (Fig. 6). <IMAGE>
