PURPOSE:To obtain a diuretic containing a specific lignan as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula which is well-known as a synthetic intermediate but not known at all to have diuretic action is used as an active ingredient for diuretic. The compound can be produced from hydrocinnamic acid sold on the market through coupling process, recrystallization process by mixed solvent of methanol-water methylation process and reduction process, has low toxicity and high safety. The compound can be administered as oral drugs such as tablet, capsule agent and granule or parenteral drugs such as injection and suppository. It is properly considered that a dose of the compound to adult is 90-450mg daily and administered three times dividedly in the case of oral drug and a dose is 2-30mg daily by intravenous injection, hypodermic injection or intramuscular injection in the case of parenteral drug.
