PURPOSE:To attain the conversion with a minimum converting time by using a magnitude comparator provided with a sequential comparison A/D converter so as to give information adjusting the gradation to the latch side via an address counter while the gradation is varied dynamically in matching with the accuracy required for the converter. CONSTITUTION:Conversion start information B is inputted to an address counter 6 of a gradation variable/sequential comparity type A/D converter 20 to give a conversion object signal A to a latch 21 via a comparator 3, the signal is subjected to A/D conversion and a digital data D is outputted through an output line 11. The data D is converted again into an analog signal by an A/D converter 10 and inputted to the comaparator 3, the signal A is compared with a truth value and the result of comparison is given to a latch 21. Moreover, the counter 6 gives address information till the end of conversion to the latch 21 and a magnitude comparator 24, the comparator 24 compares it with a gradation designation control signal E and a latch control signal is given to the latch 21 via the counter 6.
