PURPOSE:To retrieve in both directions in an equal retrieving time and to attain high speed retrieval by generating a part of the encoding output of a priority encoder from a detecting signal and a retrieving signal. CONSTITUTION:The retrieval information of 32 bits is divided into the block of a 4 bit width and retrieved respectively by corresponding P encoders <G>-<N>. The retrieval is executed in both directions by a retrieving signal PER and an inverting signal. Next, the encoding output of respective encoders <G>-<N> is selected by selector circuits 1a-1d by using a selecting signal generated by selecting signal generating circuits 2a-2d. The selected retrieving signals are selected by selector circuits 3a-3d by using the selecting signal generated by selecting signal generating circuits 4a-4d and encoder outputs PE4-PE0 are obtained. Thus, without depending on the retrieving direction, retrieval can be made highly speedy.
