PURPOSE:To measure exactly the distance between a pair of rolls by moving a laser range finder in a vertical direction between said rolls in the stage of pressing the opposed rolls toward the outside by a roll pressing device and selecting min. data from the plural sets of the distance data obtd. during the movement thereof. CONSTITUTION:A laser measuring device 3 is provided between rolls 1 and 2 which are kept pressed to the outside by a roll pressing device. Laser light is irradiated to the surfaces of the rolls 1, 2 and the light reflected therefrom is detected by said device. The distances X1, X2 from the sufaces of the device 3 to the respective surfaces of the rolls 1, 2 are measured. The device 3 is moved in an arrow A or B direction and plural sets of the distance data between the surface of the device 3 and the surfaces of the rolls 1, 2 are obtd. by the above- mentioned constitution. The min. data is selected from such distance data and the length X of the device 3 is added thereto. The result of the addition is determined as the distance between the rolls 1 and 2. |
