PURPOSE:To enhance recording speed by reducing excess awaiting time through starting the next recording operation according to the returning speed of a hammer. CONSTITUTION:A type wheel 2 is rotated by a wheel motor 103, whereby a desired type is selected, and is brought to a position between a hammer 101 and a platen 1. With a coil unit 15 energized, a magnetic force generated between a yoke 6 and an armature 101-1 projects the hammer 101 toward the platen 1, thereby printing on a recording medium 4 through an ink ribbon 17. After printing, the hammer 101 is returned backward by a reaction force of a compression coil spring 16, is stopped by colliding against a stopper 8-1, and set in a waiting condition. A slitted plate 11 having slits is provided for the hammer 101. Based on a signal from a sensor 12 corresponding to the passage of the slits when the hammer 101 is reciprocated, the return of the hammer 101 to a predetermined position is detected, upon which driving of a carriage motor, a wheel motor 103 and a ribbon motor is immediately started. |
