PROCESS FOR PREPARING HYALURONIC ACID BY CIRCULATING CELL CULTURE

Prepn. of hyaluronic acid by continuous culture of streptococcus equi ATCC 9527 using a continuous-feed stirred tank reactor (CSTR) with continuous-ultrafiltration (UF) membrane comprises (a) inoculating the preculture of S. equi into a medium contg. 0.2% tryptone, 0.2% peptone, 3.0% glucose, NaCl, and phosphat buffer soln. (pH 7.0) and culturing at 37≦̸C and 0.5vvm for 12 hr; (b) continuing cultivation with feeding 3.0% (w/v) glucose soln. and discharging the formen. broth at the dilution rate of 0.2-1.0 hr-1; (c) separating cells from the discharged stream using a UF membrane and then recycling to the reactor; (d) recovering the product from the filtrate.
