PURPOSE:To execute registration and retrieval in setting the initial letters of Japanese syllabary as keys by grouping the data group such as persons' names and their telephone numbers, etc., to sub data groups having the same initial letters of Japanese syllabary so as to register. CONSTITUTION:An administration table 10 and a data registering part 20 are set in a new media terminal. The data group of a registered object including the person's name and his telephone number is grouped every sub data groups having the same initial letters of Japanese syllabary and registered in the data registering part 20. Meanwhile, the head addresses of the respective sub data groups in the data registering part 20 are registered in the administration table 10 in setting the initial letters of Japanese syllabary that the sub data groups have as the keys. The head addresses of the respective sub data groups registered in the administration table 10 are registered as two bites of data in the storage area of address corresponding to a character code by a shift JIS of the corresponding initial letter.
