PURPOSE:To shorten a time required for an exhaustion process by radiating infrared rays of a specific wavelength on a bulb in the exhaustion process so as to heat the bulb and concurrently exhausting an outer tube and an inner tube, upon the manufacturing of a fluorescent lamp of vacuum double-tube structure in which the inner tube with a phosphor layer is disposed inside the outer tube. CONSTITUTION:Upon the manufacturing of a fluorescent lamp in which an inner tube 4 with a phosphor layer is disposed inside an outer tube, infrared rays of 3 mum or less in wavelength are radiated on the outer tube 1 in an exhaustion process of this manufacture so as to heat the outer tube 1 and concurrently the outer tube 1 and the inner tube 4 are exhausted. Most of the radiated infrared rays are made to pass through the outer tube 1 and the inner tube 4 and reach the phosphor layer which is formed on the inner surface of the inner tube, and they are provided with multiple reflection on the surface of the phosphor particles and then simultaneously absorbed. Accordingly the phosphor layer is rapidly heated and discharge of impurity gases is promoted. Hence, a time required for exhaustion can be shortened.
