[Also in Division B5] In apparatus for heat-sealing the mouth of a bag etc., of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyethylene, the bag mouth is gripped between a pair of endless belts or chains (4), 5, Figs. 1, 2 (latter not shown), moving at the speed of a conveyer 2 on which the bag rests. It is conveyed first past a hot air blower 6 which directs air, heated in a heat exchanger 8 to a temperature of between 250‹ and 400‹ C., on to the free edges (3) of the bag mouth. The heated edges are then passed between steel rollers 11, coated with P.T.F.E., which press them together. Finally the bags are conveyed past a cold air blower 12 which directs cold air on to the seam. The apparatus is mounted on a support 14 for vertical adjustment. |
