PURPOSE:To avoid the operating mistakes for KANJI (Chinese characters) conversion by providing a Japanese word dictionary function to a word processor and displaying the meanings of selected phrases and characters on a display. CONSTITUTION:When the meaning of a specific word is checked, the reading way of the word is inputted with push of a Japanese word dictionary key set on a keyboard 2. Thus a memory area for the word of the head characters registered in a Japanese word dictionary prepared in a large capacity memory 3 is read out of a table in a RAM 13. Then the data stored in the memory 3 is retrieved. The homonymous phrases, if exist, are displayed on the screen of a display device 14. One of these displayed phrases is alternatively selected with operation of the keyboard 2 and then the corresponding meaning is displayed based on the Japanese word dictionary. Thus it is possible to eliminate the KANJI converting mistakes in a document production mode.
