A screwing machine is used in particular for loosening and re-tightening fastening nuts belonging to fastening bolts for railway rails. This screwing machine has a controllable wrench head. According to the invention, it has a mechanical distribution device which can be coordinated with the working cycle of the wrench head (11) and is intended for the application of a protective agent to the rail-fastening means. In an advantageous further development of the invention, a protective-agent conduit (12), which is connected on one side to a protective-agent feed, passes, on the delivery side, through the wrench head (11) and its drive spindle (10). In the handling of iron fittings for track installations, the screwing machine makes it possible to carry out mechanically, using the screwing machine alone, an operation, namely the application of the protective agent onto the head region of each fastening element, which has previously had to be carried out manually by an additional operator (Fig.2). <IMAGE>
