Flameproof housings, which are provided especially for underground coal mining, for electrical and electronic assemblies are known in various forms. Normally, such housings are matched to the size of an assembly which is to be encapsulated. In the case of a control device for an underground transportation means, which control device comprises a plurality of assemblies, a single housing can be used which can accommodate the assemblies. However, the larger a housing the thicker must the walls be in order to conform with the applicable requirements with respect to flameproofing. The invention proposes to combine a plurality (of relatively small) housings for in each case one assembly or a few assemblies to form a housing block, the entire housing block having a single locking device. A switching shaft of the locking device is coupled to a load interrupter switch in such a manner that the switching shaft releases individual sealing covers of the housing only when the load interrupter switch has been opened in advance. Since relatively small housings are used, they need have only relatively thin walls in each case. A considerably larger housing surface is available for cooling purposes than in the case of a single large housing. The costly locking arrangement, coupled to the load interrupter switch, is, however, provided only once for a plurality of stacked housings in the housing block.
