PURPOSE:To enable provision of high efficiency and excellent surface precision even when a small part is polished, by a method wherein a magnetic force is exerted from the workpiece side, and polishing is effected in a state a polishing tool is pressed against the workpiece as a magnetic polishing agent is attracted to the desired part of a workpiece surface. CONSTITUTION:Since a roller 26 and a roller 30 are rotationally driven by a drive means, and a workpiece 2 supported by a support body 4 is relatively moved in a desired mode to a tool 50 to perform polishing. In this case, the resistance value of a variable resistor 22 of the drive part is set, and a switch 24 is brought into an ON-state. A control circuit 44 outputs a command signal, by means of which rollers 10 and 14 are rotated, to an x-drive circuit 36 and a y-driven circuit 38 so that the position of an electromagnet 6 is normally constantly maintained. Since the electromagnet 6 is normally positioned right below a polishing tool 52, magnetic flux density of a magnetic field generated on the surface of the workpiece 2 is maximized on a polishing tool position. Thus, a magnetic polishing agent is normally attracted between the polishing tool and the workpiece, and the polishing agent is prevented from running out, and polishing is effected with high polishing efficiency.
