A master cylinder has a pressure cylinder (1) and a separately made reservoir element (22) enveloping, in spaced relationship substantially the entire outer axially and radially extending surface of the cylinder defining the internal bore thereof. The resulting space (23) constitutes a reservoir for containing hydraulic fluid. The cylinder outer surface requires no finishing to improve its appearance and is protected against corrosion by the contacting fluid.
