Novel pyrazoloazole couplers comprise an aryl or heterocyclic group having, in at least one of the ortho positions to the carbon atom (A) that is bonded to the pyrazoloazole nucleus, a substituent (B) that enables the pyrazoloazole couplers to form a magenta dye that has increased stability and has absorption controllably shifted, that is shifted hypsochromically relative to a dye formed from a similar coupler lacking substituent (B). These couplers are useful in photographic silver halide materials and processes.
