PURPOSE:To develop a ferrous sintered alloy for sliding member excellent in strength, wear resistance, and seizure resistance, by incorporating specific amounts of C, Cu, Ti, and B into a raw material for sintered alloy at the time of manufacturing a sliding member by using a ferrous sintered alloy. CONSTITUTION:As a sliding member used under the high-pressure surface, an Fe powder containing, by weight, 0.2-1.5% C, 0.5-20% Cu, 0.1-5.0% Ti, and 0.01-1.5% B respectively in powdered states is press-compacted into the prescribed shape, and the resulting green compact is sintered in an N-gas atmosphere at 1,100 deg.C for 30min. In the above sintered compact, contained Cu enters into solid solution in the matrix of the sintered compact to improve the wear resistance of the sintered compact, hard carbides and borides such as TiC, TiB, etc., are formed in a martensitic structure excellent in wear resistance and strength to improve wear resistance to a greater extent, and a part of B produces a liquid phase at the time of sintering and improves sintering characteristics. Moreover, since this material is a sintered alloy, the sintered alloy for sliding member excellent also in self-lubricity can be obtained.
