PURPOSE:To easily obtain a purple orienting film having satisfactory orienting property and a uniform thickness with high reproducibility without waste by impressing voltage between a substrate and an electrode so fitted to the inner wall of a sample vessel that the electrode is made parallel to the substrate and confronts the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A suspension for a purple film purified several times with an ultra-centrifuge and adjusted to about 9.0 pH is poured into a sample vessel 1 as a sample liq. The vessel 1 and a substrate fixing stand 4 are fixed with magnetic stands 2, 12 after they are regulated so that an electrode 7 fitted to the inner wall of the vessel 1 is made parallel to substrate 6. The substrate 6 having a soldered lead wire 17 is fixed on a substate support plate 5 so that the surface confronts the electrode 7. The lead wire 8 of the electrode 7 and the lead wire 17 of the substrate 6 are connected to a DC power source and about 10V voltage is impressed. After a purple film is deposited on the substrate 6 by electrophoresis, the substrate 6 is slightly moved backward with an X-axis moving knob 16 and then a Z-axis moving knob 15 is turned at constant rate to pull the substrate 6 out of the sample liq. 3. Thus, a purple orienting film with no surface disorder is obtd.
