PURPOSE:To secure the sound weld quality by providing a through hole on a flange side and fitting a starting end tab provided with a hole to the central part and penetrating a flange to weld a web to settle defects of a starting end part in the tab. CONSTITUTION:After the butt welding 7 of the flange 5 is finished, the hole 8 is made on the flange 5 in accordance with the plate thickness and groove width of the web 4. The tab 6 produced by estimating the size of the hole 8 in advance is fitted thereto. A consumable nozzle 10 is inserted up to the bottom of a hole 9 of the tab 6 and the position of the consumable nozzle 10 is regulated so as to come to the center of a groove and the center of the hole 9 to start the welding. The defects of the depth peculiar to the CES (consumable nozzle type electroslag) welding are all settled in the tab 6 and the satisfactory quality of a penetrated welded zone of the flange 5, a shift part to the web 4 and a butt welded zone of the web 4 is obtained. |
