1,191,105. Accumulators having spiral electrodes and inner and outer cylindrical terminals. SOC. DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION. 24 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966], No. 33978/67. Heading H1B. An electrochemical current-generator comprises a first metal cylinder disposed within and insulated from a second metal cylinder, with positive and negative spiral electrodes disposed in the annular space thereby defined, the or each positive electrode being electrically connected to one of the cylinders and the or each negative electrode being electrically connected to the other cylinder. The electrodes must be separated by a porous separator and are preferably electrodes of a Cd-Ni of Cd-Ag alkaline cell and not more than 1 mm. thick, having uncoated metal spiral edges which may be welded directly or by metal extension to the cylinders. Fig. 1 shows an alkaline Cd-Ni accumulator having a negative electrode 1 and positive electrode 2 wound with porous separator 3 on to inner cylinder 5, all inside cylinder 6, the two cylinders forming with insulating rings 7 the housing 4. Each electrode comprises a perforated metal sheet coated with sintered Cd(OH) 2 or Ni(OH) 2 and having unperforated, uncoated spiral edges 11a or 12 connected to the terminal cylinders. |
