PURPOSE:To prepare an active fraction for lowering cholesterol useful as an antiarteriosclerotic agent, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Streptococcus. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium such as Streptococcus faecium (FERM BP-296), Streptococcus faecalis (FERM BP-297), etc. belonging to the genus Streptococcus is cultivated by a conventional procedure under aerobic conditions, a cluture solution is centrifuged, a mold is collected, the prepared mold is destroyed, treated with a protease such as pronase, trypsin, pepsin, etc., a treated solution is dialyzed, a component having about <=3,500 molecular weight is removed, and an active fraction for lowering cholesterol is collected as an inner solution of dialysis. |
