PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacture of an optical functional device and to facilitate its optical integration by using two substrates, forming one of their stuck surfaces, and charging an organic nonlinear optical material in a fused state in the space part formed of the groove after sticking the substrates and thus forming an optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 has the groove where the organic nonlinear optical material is charged in its surface, and this groove is wide and deep enough to enable single-mode transmission. Then a glass plate 2 is stuck on the surface of the substrate 1 where the groove is formed while covering the groove, and the thin tube type space part is formed of the groove. Then the organic nonlinear optical material in the fused state is charged in the space part by capillarity or vacuum suction to form the waveguide 3 of the organic nonlinear optical material. Consequently, the charging of the organic nonlinear optical material is facilitated and the optical waveguide is easily formed of the organic nonlinear optical material, so the device is reduced in size sufficiently and the optical functional device with fast-response characteristics is easily obtained. |
