The present invention relates to a rain gauge employing a drop detector and an electronic part allowing a correspondence to be made between the number of drops counted and a rain gauge measurement expressed in millimetres, taking into account certain corrections, in particular as a function of the intensity of the rain, the length of the bright intervals, the temperature, storms, and even the relative humidity. This rain gauge stores in memory the height of water, the duration of the precipitations and the time of the heaviest rainfall of each day for one year. The electronic part of the rain gauge comprises means for dialogue with a user, in order to obtain either a rain gauge reading for a given day, or a rain gauge reading sum for a chosen duration. <IMAGE>
