PROCESS FOR PREPARING A POLYMERIZATION CATALYST

A catalyst used in olefin polymerization is prepd. by applying to an inert inorganic support, esp. silica, the reaction prod. of a Cr compd. with organometallic compds. of Gp. (II) or (III) metal contg. C1-20 hydrocarbyl gps.. The prod. is treated with an atmos. contg. molecular oxygen at below 100≰C or an organic compd. contg. one or more hydroxy gps. reactive with the hydrocarbyl gps. of the prod. to decompose the reactive gps. The catalyst is activated at 200-1200≰C for use in alpha-olefin polymerization.
