Apparatus is disclosed whereby a television receiver or other appliance can be turned off by throwing a soft missile at the receiver or other applicance. The missile incorporates a transmitter arranged to be activated by impact forces to transmit a signal to a receiver incorporated in a switching facility which cuts off the power supply to the television receiver or other appliance on receipt of such a signal.
