An endoscope having a bendable extruded member (6) is improved by arranging that the extruded member (6) consists of a multiplicity of segments (1) which are lined up with one another, connected to one another by joints (3, 4) and surrounded by a hose envelope (5), and that each joint (3, 4) is assigned an electronically controllable actuator (7, 8). The storable information on angular position and the corresponding positioning movements pass through the joints (3, 4) one after the other in the direction opposite to the direction of advance of the endoscope. The resulting snake-like movement facilitates the insertion of the endoscope into tightly wound hollow passages. The joints (3, 4) can be constructed as hollow spherical sections which can be snapped together. The actuators (7, 8) are bellows which act in opposition to one another and are subjected to a controllable pressure, for example by heating (9) an easily evaporable liquid contained therein. <IMAGE>
