PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium having high recording density and superior magnetic characteristic by segregating and depositing a nonmagnetic metal having a low m.p. of <=650 deg.C on the peripheral surfaces of acicular grains of a ferromagnetic body. CONSTITUTION:Acicular grains 2 of CoCr as a ferromagnetic body are grown on a PET film 1 as a nonmagnetic base body with a vacuum depositing device, and at least one kind of nonmagnetic metal 3 having a low m.p. of <=650 deg.C such as Bi, Pb, Sb, Zn or In is segregated and deposited on the peripheral surfaces of the grains 2. Since the acicular grains 2 of CoCr are magnetically insulated, each of the grains exhibits the behavior of grains having a single magnetic domain, recording density is increased and superior magnetic characteristics can be provided. The warping, thermal deterioration and cracking of the base body 1 can be prevented because of <=650 deg.C m.p. of the metal 3.
