The commutator segment (34) is provided with an integral terminal (36) having a slot (48) which is open at one end for receiving a portion (32) of the armature winding and which is arranged so as in use to straddle and grip the winding portion to establish and maintain electrical contact between the terminal and the winding portion. The method comprises removing insulation from at least part of the winding portion and then inserting a bared part of the winding portion into the slot by moving the terminal and winding portion relative to one another.
