PURPOSE:To permit sure detection of the presence or absence of a film in a cassette by using a negative pressure detecting means to detect whether the suction by a 2nd suction means disposed with the suction surface with inclination to the surface at the end of the film is executed or not. CONSTITUTION:A cap is opened by an opening mechanism after the cassette is inserted and is positioned to a cap opening position. An X-ray film taking-out device 162 operates from this state. Plural suction cups 184 having the suction surfaces parallel with the surface of the X-ray film in the inside part of the cassette along the transverse direction thereof and the suction cup 185 having the previously inclined suction surfaces are mounted to a plate 182 with suction cups of the device 162. The presence or absence of the X-ray film is detected by the negative pressure detecting means according to whether the inclined suction cup 185 sucks the end of the X-ray film or now when the suction cups 184, 185 are lowered onto the end part on the front surface of the X-ray film in the cassette upon operation of the device 162.
