PURPOSE:To permit inexpensive and easy production of the titled coupler by fixing one polishing part to a stationary member, fixing the other polishing part to a movable member which is freely slidable in the axial direction of fibers with respect to the stationary member and bringing the respective polishing parts freely slidably into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:Light power is first guided from a light source 17 to one polishing optical fiber 2a. Coupling of the light power is executed in a contact part 6 and the light power is emitted from an output side 9 of the one polishing optical fiber 2a and the branched output side 10 of the other polishing optical fiber 2b. The emitted light powers are respectively detected by photodetectors 18, 18. A movable side glass block 21 is slide by rotating an adjusting screw 25 of a sliding member and is moved to the position where the light powers emitted from the output side 9 and the branched output side 10 attain a desired output branching ratio. An arbitrary output branching ratio is obtainable with this optical fiber coupler 19 by bringing the polishing optical fibers 2a, 2b with which the stock removal is increased to some extent into contact with each other and sliding the stationary side and movable side glass blocks 22, 21 along the axial line of the fibers 2a, 2b. |
