PURPOSE:To enable the production of a glass fiber free from eccentricity in high yield, by placing a glass block in a crucible, heating the block and spinning molten glass through a hole of the bottom of the crucible, wherein the heating part is rotated round the crucible. CONSTITUTION:In the spinning of a glass fiber, especially a chalcogenide glass fiber, a preform 1 of the glass block is put into a crucible 2, the crucible 2 is inserted into a heating furnace 3 and the preform 1 is heated at a temperature to attain a prescribed viscosity of the preform. In the heating process, the heating furnace 3 is rotated round the crucible using a rotation mechanism 10. A prescribed pressure is applied to the crucible 2 from above and the extruded fiber 4 is passed through an inert gas atmosphere region 5 under the heating furnace and wound on a winding drum 6. |
