PURPOSE:To detect a local light and shade area without fail from an image where an outline is not clear by multiplying a coefficient to the picture element data of the section in accordance with the gradient of the section where the image data due to the primary scanning come to be large or small, emphasizing an image light and shade and extracting a segment to constitute a secondary area. CONSTITUTION:Image data to multivalue the light and shade of a photographing image stored into an original picture input device 1 for a picture element are primary-scanned by an image emphasizing means 4 of an area detecting device 2 and with the picture element section where the image data are large and the picture element section where the image data are small as the emphasizing object section, the coefficient in accordance with the data gradient of the section is multiplied to the picture element data. The image data, in which the light and shade generated by the means 4 is emphasized, are inputted, an area searching means 5 extracts the picture element section, in which the emphasizing image data exceed the threshold, as a segment, and the picture element area is detected and outputted from the segment to connect mutually and constitute a secondary area. By the constitution, in an ultrasonic crack inspect, etc., a light and shade area having a constant spread locally can be detected without fail even from the image in which the light and shade area to be the object of inspection, is not clear. |
