<p>A layered divalent metal compound is described which obeys the general formula: M(HAO4)x (R [AO4-q]n )y (Z)z wherein M is a divalent metal, A is a pentavalent element, preferably phosphorus, R is a substituent group, other than H or OH, covalently bonded to A, Z is an intercalated moiety, preferably H2O, x is greater than zero and less than or equal to 1, y is less than 1 such that x+y=1, q is zero or 1, n is 1 or 2, z is 1 or 2 when y is zero, and z is zero to 10 when y is greater than zero.</p> |
