PURPOSE:To improve the managing accuracy of inspection by improving an inspection method for the height adjustment of a sound head, by providing an inspection signal track positioned adjacently to the lower end of a sound track and records an inspection signal for the height adjustment of the sound head. CONSTITUTION:The inspection signal of a test tape 1 for adjusting the height of the sound head in which the inspection signal is recorded on an inspection track 3 provided adjacently to the lower end of the sound track 2 is reproduced with the sound head 6 in a magnetic recording and reproducing device. The level of an outputted inspection signal is indicated by a level meter 9, and the sound head 6 is moved up and down for the sound track 2 in a perpendicular direction so as to set the level of the inspection signal less than a regulated level. The adjustment of the height of the sound head 6 is performed by turning a screw 10 for adjusting the height of the sound head. By adopting such adjustment, since the inspection signal track 3 on which the inspection signal is recorded is provided adjacently to the lower end of the sound track 2, the amplitude of the level meter 9 for the deviation of the sound head 6 can be indicated obviously. In such a way, it is possible to perform the height adjustment of the sound head exactly even by a person other than an expert, and also, it can easily be performed.
