PURPOSE:To efficiently perform an image forming job by preferentially using an immediately operatable developing device for image formation if developing devices selected for image forming operation include a developing device which cannot be immediately operated. CONSTITUTION:A developing device storage device B in which plural developing devices 13A-13C are stored is provided on the outside of an image forming device body A, and developing devices selected from the developing device storage device B are transported to the image forming position in the device body A. If the developing devices selected for a certain image forming operation include a developing device which cannot be immediately operated, the immediately operatable developing device other than this developing device is preferentially used for image formation. Since the image forming operation is started with the immediately operatable developing device, a developer is replenished or the developing device is set during the image forming operation using the immediately operatable developing device to eliminate a wasteful time, and the image forming job is efficiently performed.
