PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-purity and reactive resin of high heat resistance, by heat treatment, in an aqueous medium under pressure at specified temperatures, of a granular or powdery phenol-formaldehyde resin to remove the water-soluble matter contained. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be obtained by heat treatment, in an aqueous medium (pref., water or its mixture with alcohol) under pressure at 100-200 deg.C, of a granular or powdery phenol.formaldehyde resin having granular primary particles of a size 0.1-150mu or secondary flocculates therefrom and giving the following infrared absorption spectra by the KBr table method: D990-1015/D160=0.2-9, D890/D1600=0.09-1 where, D1600: absorption intensity at 1,600cm<-1>, D990-1015: maximum absorption intensity between 990 and 1,015cm<-1>, D890: absorption intensity at 890cm<-1>.
