PURPOSE:To control the generation of the strip slipping force exerted at right angles to the traveling direction of the strip, by providing a gas jet nozzle above a strip flotation supporting device, and blowing a high-pressure gas onto the strip edge. CONSTITUTION:A fluid is introduced into the internal space 4 of the box 2 of a floating device through a pipeline 6, and the fluid is injected onto the strip 1 from a hole or slit 5. The gas jet nozzle 10 is set on the inclined side of the flotation supporting device at an angle of about 45 deg. to the surface of the strip 1, and a high-pressure gas is blown onto the upper part or lower part of the inclined strip 1. The horizontal force exerted on the inclined strip 1 is canceled or moved in the reverse direction by the shearing force between the strip 1 and the gas. The gas jet nozzle 10 is preferably provided on both sides of the flotation supporting device.
