PURPOSE:To reduce the water content of coal at high working efficiency with less consumption of energy and accomplish drying of coal on carriage, by sandwiching coal between a lower coal conveyor and an upper adsorption dehydrating belt and performing dehydration of the coal during transportation thereof. CONSTITUTION:Coal 5 containing adherent water is put in a coal feeder 1 and continuously fed to a coal conveyor 4. The coal on the conveyor 4 is brought into contact, in the course of the moving of the conveyor 4, with an upper belt 3 composed of a water adsorptive and desorptive polymer which belt has been disposed so as to face the conveyor 4. This causes the water adhered to the coals to be absorbed by the polymer. As a result, dry coal 6 is continuously prepd. from an end of the conveyor 4. The water adsorbed to the polymer is desorbed when the belt 3 passes through a drier 2. Representa tive examples of a usable water-swellable rubbery polymer include gum arabic, polyvinyl alcohol, methylcellulose and open-cellular polyurethane foam.
