A fixed caliper disc brake has its pads applied by opposed pistons, operable by fluid pressure and by respective levers operable by a common member. In Fig. 1 the pads 4, 5 are applied to the disc by opposed pistons 2, 3 which are operated either by fluid pressure or by cams 11, 12 associated with levers 7, 8 which may be drawn together by a Bowden cable or by linkwork. It is stated that automatic slack adjustment may be effected by ratchets 13, 14. As shown, the levers are vertical but they may be horizontal (Figs. 6 and 7) or inclined to the horizontal (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The Bowden cables for a pair of wheel brakes may have a common support (43, 44, Figs. 7 and 8, not shown).</p> |
