PURPOSE:To detect the fault of a communication path without changing the constitution of a hardware even when no normal error check is performed due to the fault of the error check function of the hardware, by checking the normality of the communication path by a software. CONSTITUTION:Areas having one and the same data are set semi-fixedly in the memories 1 and 1' of a system in current use and a spare system respectively in advance. In other words, the areas A and A', B and B', C and C', and D and D' are areas having one and the same content of data respectively. Those data are read from the system in current use to the read buffer of the spare system via communication equipments 3 and 3', and are compared with the data of the spare system. Namely, at every reading of the data set on the areas A-D respectively to the spare system subsequently, the data read in the read buffer is compared with the data corresponding to the area set on the spare system in the spare system. If a compared result shows non- coincidence, it is judged as the fault of the communication path, and the fault processing of the communication path is performed.
