PURPOSE:To facilitate the communication of message items by providing a memory area to be able to write and read free data successively by a worker and a program for it in a numerical controller. CONSTITUTION:A numerical controller 1 has a CPU 2, a RAM 3, a ROM 4 and a CMOS 5, an NC program 6 is loaded from an input port A and to input ports B and C, a keyboard 7 for input and a data displaying part 8 are connected respectively. To output ports D and E of the numerical controller 1, two pairs of servo control devices 91 and 92 are respectively connected and these control motors 101 and 102 to drive the machine tool respectively. The CMOS 5 is made non-volatile, respective types of data are written and a writable empty area is equipped. To the area, a worker inputs the data not directly related to processing, data to be remained, free data, etc., by using the keyboard 7. As this result, the memory information can be freely extracted and displayed by a data displaying part 8.
